International Bike Day

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving” – Albert Einstein.

In order to promote this mean of transportation and draw attention to the rights of cyclists, April 19th has been established International Bike Day.

The bicycle is an economic and ecological alternative: it is also beneficial to our health at all ages and friendly environment. Both within the city and in rural environments the use of the bicycle is the catalyst for a healthier life in a responsible society.

Gallery Nights 2012: A night tour of art in Buenos Aires

Next April 27 galleries and art spaces in Barrio Norte and Recoleta will dress up for the start of another cycle of Gallery Nights. The spaces will be open from 7 to 10pm to present their artists and show the latest creations.

Gallery Nights is the art circuit that gathers art lovers in an original trail of art galleries, antique shops, museums and cultural centers in Buenos Aires. It runs from April to December in Buenos Aires (Barrio Norte, Retiro and Palermo) and in January a special summer edition in Punta del Este.

It’s not a guided tour: with map in hand, the public can tour the galleries in the area,  or go to the exhibitions that interest them most. Everything is free, including complimentary glass of Chandon offered by galleries.

Also, a complimentary shuttle is available in order to get to every art gallery and move with greater ease. Stops are marked on maps, and minibuses travel the entire circuit constantly.  Take a look at the map and start the tour where you prefer.

A Tranny Parrilla in Buenos Aires

Parrilla Transeuntes is not the typical parrilla of Buenos Aires: this is a gastronomic venture run by trans people. Transeúntes, which means ‘passerby’ in Spanish, was born as a place for trans people to work, learn basic skills, and have the chance to develop a career.

They offer a tasty menu criollo,  that is simple & reduced: vacío, chorizo or gondola, available “al plato” (in a plate) or as a sandwich. The meat can be accompanied by a selection of side dishes, such as papas fritas, salads or grilled vegetables.

Located in Barracas, with an extremely casual ambience, it’s open Monday thru Friday, form 11am to 3pm.
A different parrilla to try out.

World Water Day

Each of us needs to drink 2 to 4 litres of water every day. But it takes 2000 to 5000 litres of water to produce one person’s daily food.
The world is thirsty because of our needs for food. Today, there are over 7 billion people to feed on the planet and this number is expected to reach 9 billion by 2050.
To be able to feed everybody, we first need to secure water, in suffifficient quantity and adequate quality.

International World Water Day is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

The UN Water has prepared an advocacy guide for you to download & read. The aims of this guide are: Learning to help to communicate the purpose of World Water Day 2012, to encourage advocacy and stakeholder action towards improving water and land management and governance and to share information about World Water Day 2012 activities, efforts and events.

The success of World Water Day depends on you.
